"Sorry I'm late", said the brooom.
"I overswept"! Hey, students! Feeling bored? Perhaps you are looking for something more? Well, I have a challlenge for you! The challenges are not part of your grade nor are they required. Your homework is Thinkersize and you can find that by scrolling up or down. The challenges are fun ways to boost your brain power and keep you going while we are apart. Participate at your level and desire. If you choose to participate, students who complete each challenge and email me with what they did to participate, will be entered in a drawing for a prize! So, come along, if you choose, and have a great time with me as we explore our world in a new way! This weeks challenge: Play a game (online games do NOT count). Hello wonderful scholars! Welcome! Are you ready for some fun!?! It is time to Thinkersize! Hooray! (Imagine me dancing a little jig!) Here is the plan for today: 1. Get your weekly Thinkersize by clicking on the tab below (puzzle 11 in your 3-ring binder if you have it). 2. Do the work. Complete the assignment at your own pace (all at once, a few puzzles each day, etc.). 3. Submit your work. It needs to be completed AND submitted by Thursday at 9:00 am. You may submit one of two ways: A. Print it out (unless you have your 3-ring binder with you) and write on the paper, take a picture of your assignment, and email it. B. Open a word document and type your answers. Then, submit it on the 5th/6th grade tab. 4. I'll respond to your email with a link for the Zoom in-person conference on Thursday to receive your answers. I need your email to give you the code so PLEASE email me your answers. I will be tracking your work/score as your 3rd term grade. What if I get stuck? Just like in class, check the "Yellow pages" (strategies) first. (3 ring binder or home page on website) If you still can't figure out how to solve the problems, email me. [email protected] I will check and respond to emails Monday- Friday from 9:00-10:00 am.
How can I track my progress? You can track your progress by printing out a tracker sheet if you do not have your 3 ring binder. What should my paper look like when I submit it in word? Name, First and Last (Becky Chamberlain) School and grade (Bennion, 5th) 1. Perplexing Puzzle- include the digits as well as the title! (Ex. 4 pairs of white socks) 2. Ex. 1234 2341 3412 4123 4. Brain Buster answer. 5. Amazing Analogies answers (top to bottom, all 3) 6. Position Puzzle answer. 7. Deductive Dilemmas answers. 8. Quick Quiz answer. 9. Common Connection answer. Hello!
After Spring Break, if needed, I will post two lessons per week (as we regularly meet 2X per week). Bennion and Hawthorne students complete the lesson posted yesterday (scroll down to view). Have a wonderful Spring Break! Play games! Enjoy fresh air! Happy 1st day of spring! Good Morning! Did you feel the earthquake this morning? How did that make you feel? Let's use the Habit of Mind, "asking questions" to find out more about earthquakes! Today you are an investigator, just like Dudley the Detective. Lets find clues to find answers to our questions. Grab a piece of paper or a think sheet. This can be anything, the back of a napkin, an ipad, etc. Got it? Great! Now let's settle in and write.
What do you know about earthquakes? Take a minute or 4 to recall what you know. Next, write down any questions you have. For example, I'm wondering if Magna has had earthquakes before and if my dogs, Milo and Koda, can sense earthquakes before they happen. What do you wonder? Write down your questions. Brainstorm any ideas about earthquakes. Finally, go find out! To start, put a star by the three questions you think you can find answers to and begin research to your questions. Remember to determine the validity of your online searches before you read information out there. ".edu" or ".gov" will be more reliable than ".com". Don't settle- get accurate information... and, as always, never ever use wikipedia. 😉 Don't forget primary resources, as well. Who do you know that you can talk to or what information can you get from pictures or diaries? You are not powerless. Information can help you feel in control when you feel like things are happening beyond your control. Most importantly, remember, I am here for you. If you would like to reach out, you can reach me via email, [email protected]. I care about you, precious ones. I am thinking of you. |
