Use your time wisely to QUIETLY work on creating your game. The competition dates are as follows: Tuesday, May 15th (school wide competition) Friday, May 19th (Region) Tuesday, May 29th (District). If you need to talk to a teammate, whisper. You should not be standing around. If you reach a point where you are not sure what to do next, read through the rules packet and identify one piece that is missing or could be improved. If there is nothing else, you may read. You need to be finished reading Habit #6 by Tuesday, May 1st.
Complete the "green basket packet". It will be due on Thursday. It is worth 15 points. When you are finished, read Habit 5 "Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood" in your book.
Think win-win. Watch this movie clip to see Wreck it Ralph going through the phases of win-lose, lose-win, and finally, win-win. Now compare Wreck It Ralph with the young man in this next video. As you watch ask yourself: "How did he turn a loose loose to a win-win?https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=you+tube+how+i+harness+the+wind&view=detail&mid=357F48DEF4962D7D8F60357F48DEF4962D7D8F60&FORM=VIRE
Packet... You're going to love it... or at least you are going to get organized!
Begin on the SMART goals page. Complete both sides. Then, complete the "First Things First" page. Fill in the blanks from the book. Now skip ahead in your packet to "Habit 2: Begin With the End in Mind" (pgs. 34-36) Complete these three pages. Finally, "Habit 3: Put First Things First" (pgs. 37-39). Fill out the journal for week 1 but not for week 2. We will do week 2 next time. This is personal work, so it is best to go at it alone. I estimate this activity to take the whole time. If it doesn't, use the extra time to read your book. This assignment, while incredibly valuable, does not have any points associated with it. However, you need to bring it with you, completed, to class tomorrow so that you can have time to work with your team on creative pursuits. Your packet needs to be caught up before you work on the game. Make it a great day! **PLEASE NOTE** If your packet pages are off, please go according to the TITLE of the page, not the page number!!! 1- Pen-pal time! Find the letter from your pen pal located in the small gold envelope, read it, and then respond on a piece of notebook paper. Be sure to answer your letter PROACTIVELY, thinking about what you say and ask. Express your excitement to meet them in two months! This should take no more than 15 minutes. When you finish writing your letter, place it in the gold envelope. Keep the letter your pen pal wrote you.
2- Then, begin writing your personal mission statement. Start by looking through the white packet in the green basket. Answer the questions and take the "footsteps" to creating your own. When you come to the part about interviewing three people, choose one person in our class. Interview them. The other two people should be done as homework- a friend outside of class, parent, neighbor, or a community member who knows you well. Don't worry about making your mission statement perfect, just write. As ideas come to you, write them down. You can add stuff later as you think about it. What should it look like? How long should it be? Anything. However long it needs to be for it to be meaningful to you. It can look like a paragraph or like an acrostic poem I wrote when I was your age: "RELY" Respect all Envision and hope Love and appreciate Yearn for knowledge and never stop learning There is no right or wrong way to write a mission statement. Just make sure that it reflects YOU! This rough draft will be due on Thursday. Bring it with you to class next time. It is worth 20 points. This should take about 30 minutes. 3- If by some crazy chance you finish early, work on your game for creative pursuits. Type up the final draft of your autobiography. Be sure to include the edits from yourself, your peer, and your teacher. If you do not finish, it is homework. The due date was moved from Tuesday to this Thursday, per our earlier conversation. Be sure to have it turned in by Thursday. When you are finished typing up your final autobiography, if you still have time during class, complete the second page in your habits booklet, "Bank Account" (Front and Back). Save and bring it to class next time. By Tuesday (tomorrow) you should have read to page 72 in your book. Be sure to have read to this point. You will need the information for our discussion. Be proactive!
